During her BSc, Carla participated in the Co-operative Education Program at Simon Fraser University. In this program she gained valuable experience in various research labs including The Center for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics in Vancouver were she assisted in the characterization of knockout and transgenic mouse models. At the BC Cancer Agency in Terry Fox Laboratories Carla expanded her knowledge of hematopoiesis as she worked independently and in collaboration with PhD students in the study of a unique signalling pathway that regulates hematopoietic cell development. Carla began work at StemCell Technologies in 2002 in Contract Services and the Research and Development Department where here skills have been invaluable for the development of a media required for endothelial progenitor cell culture. Ms. Pereira received her BSc in Cell and Molecular Biology from Simon Fraser University, Canada.
